Parents Choice?? What a novel idea

Officials in Santa Clara county, CA, are trying to ban toys from McDonalds happy meals because they feel like they are causing children to eat foods that are high in fat leading to childhood obesity. First of all, McDonalds has added healthy alternatives from Milk instead of soda to apple dippers instead of fries making a happy meal not such a bad choice for an occasional dinner on the run. Secondly, isn’t that something that should be a parents’ decision? The official on the news said that “parents need our help with this.” HA! If I can’t tell my eight year old that we will go to McDonalds but she can’t have soda, what kind of parent am I?
It is my responsibility as a parent to moniter what my kids eat…not the government’s responsibility. It is my responsibility to make sure that my kids learn how to make wise choices on what to eat and what not to eat to be a healthy person.
If the government chooses to make public school lunches healthier and taste better, great, but they need to recognize where the line is drawn between a parents’ responsibility and where the over reaching hand of government needs to stay on the other side of that line.

  1. I totally agree! The parents of the children should be held responsible for monitoring their kids daily food intake.
